FAQs
Do you do Trades/Consignment?
We only sell new bikes and do not offer parts/bicycle trades or consignment.
Can you service my e-bike/ can you add a pedal assist kit to my bike?
We do not have the capacity to do any level of work on e-bikes, or to modify current bikes to take an e-assist kit. We recommend seeking out e-bike specific shops for your repairs, such as Northwest Electric & Folding, G&O Family Cyclery or Bike Swift!
I got in an accident on my bike—what should I do?
Ouch! So sorry this happened. First steps are to connect with a lawyer if there was a driver involved, such as one of the fine folks from Washington Bike Law who specialize in representing cyclists in Washington. Secondly, even if you think your bike is ok, it’s best to have it looked over by a professional before you keep riding it.
My saddle is super uncomfortable. Can I try one out before purchasing?
We have a small (but growing) saddle library! Folks can put down a $20 non-refundable deposit and try any saddle they please for up to a week until we settle on the right one. That $20 will then go towards purchase of a saddle from our shop. We stock Specialized, Brooks and Terry saddles.
Can you work on my tandem/cargo bike?
Unfortunately we are limited by size at our shop, so we’re not able to service anything larger than a standard bicycle.
Surly/Salsa/All-City’s website says you have “X” bike in stock—can I come pick it up?
Unfortunately these websites do not properly integrate with our actual inventory. For questions about bike availability, feel free to reach out and ask what we have on hand!
Do you offer classes/rides?
Two of us have a background in teaching bike classes, so we are hoping to build up to running small courses on bike maintenance in the future. As far as rides, we have occasional casual rides a couple of times a year. Follow us on Instagram page for updates!
Do you ship bikes?
We do not have a bike shipping service, but we are happy to box/unbox and assemble your bike for pickup from the shop using a service like bikeflights. You are in charge of setting up the pickup/delivery via the third party, we make sure your bike is safely packed or ready to ride. Please email freerangecycles@gmail.com at least 2 weeks in advance to set up a box/pickup to make sure we have time and supplies! We do not offer this service on the spot.
I got a flat tire—do I need to make an appointment?
We’re always happy to fix a flat or make a very minor derailleur adjustment on the spot. For everything else we ask that you make an appointment.
I have a bike from the 70’s, can you make it safe?
It really depends on the shape the bike is in. Folks who have opted to put the money into their older bikes typically spend upwards of $500 to make it safe. We value your safety and our reputations as mechanics, so we won’t work on an older bike that we can’t guarantee, and that comes with a price. But we also get that bikes can have sentimental value, so we’re willing to talk it over.
Can you do a fit on my bike?
We’re not professional fitters—we save that for Physical Therapists and pros. But we can help you adjust your stem or seat to be more comfortable. If you have any previous injuries we recommend working with a certified fitter or PT.
